About Our Pastor


Dr. David Sorenson is the pastor of Northstar Baptist Church of Duluth. His ministry began in 1969 when he became an assistant pastor of the Fourth Baptist Church of Minneapolis, under Dr. Richard V. Clearwaters. He then was associate pastor for a period of 10 years under his Father, Dr. Henry C. Sorenson at the Faith Baptist Church in Pekin, Illinois. Pastor and Mrs. Sorenson

In 1982, he became the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Brainerd, Minnesota followed by a short and sweet pastorate at Sara Bay Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida. While there, God placed a definitive call upon him to return to Minnesota and start the Northstar Baptist Church of Duluth in 1989.

Dr. David Sorenson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in 1969. He received a Master of Divinity degree (cum laude) from Central Baptist Theological Seminary of Minneapolis in 1972. In 2001, he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Pensacola Theological Seminary in Pensacola, Florida.

In recent years, Dr. Sorenson has authored four popular books: Training Your Children to Turn Out Right, now in its third edition with approximately 15,000 copies in circulation; The Art of Pastoring; Have a Heavenly Marriage; and the popular book Touch Not the Unclean Thing. The latter book has over 22,000 copies in circulation after less than eight months in print and is presently in its third edition.

Dr. Sorenson has been married for almost 32 years to his wife Pam, who is a native of Duluth. Together, they have two daughters: Heidi, who is a nursing supervisor at the Duluth Clinic, and Heather who is a concert pianist and arranger of Christian music in the Dallas, Texas area.
